Hey, y’all. I’m working on Bucket List Item #6 (write a book) and it’s taken over everything else. This is not me complaining. I’m giddy! I feel like this is what I’m supposed to be doing with my life — crafting words on my computer in a comfortable space and giggling to myself like a… Read More: Thriftygal’s Book Reviews – November 2016 »
Today’s dish is a spicy green chutney. We eat it with samosas. Samosas are fried dough with peas and potatoes inside. We also eat this with grilled cheese sandwiches. You know what those are. Really, you can eat it with anything you want to make spicy and so freaking good. That’s true of most of… Read More: Green chutney recipe »
To be really happy and really safe, one ought to have at least two or three hobbies, and they must all be real. Winston Churchill seems like such an interesting dude. So insightful. One of the many reasons I love my resolutions chart is that it shows me what I’m actually doing and what I just… Read More: How to thoughtfully spend on your hobbies »
More of your questions answered! By me! Mostly about VTSAX. VTSAX is, of course, my one true love and where I invest the majority of my money. It’s the total stock market index fund from Vanguard. Hey, here’s a new thing I’m doing. I like to read and I’ve started writing pithy little reviews of books I finish. Okay, that’s not accurate. Pithy implies short, but full of substance. My reviews are mostly rubbish. If my review of the book makes it sound interesting and if you click on the link and if… Read More: Thriftygal’s Book Reviews – October 2016 »
Here’s my best attempt to persuade you that biking is your purpose in life. Or at least the best way to get around a bunch of places. Biking saves money! Biking is pretty much free after you fork over the initial outlay of money. My commute to work in Chicago using the L cost me $80/month for an unlimited… Read More: Let’s all start biking everywhere »
I’m retired and I travel and I make stupid lists. That’s kind of my thing. Nearly every trip gets a Bucket List and I thought I’d share with you my Anchorage Bucket List to give you some ideas on (1) what you can do in Anchorage and (2) what life is like when you’re retired… Read More: Thriftygal’s Anchorage Bucket List »
A friend of mine — his name is Dan and he is not imaginary — explained to me his theory on finding a mate recently. He approached it as a logic game more than luck. Everyone, including yourself, carries a number from 1 to 100. The goal of the game is to get together with the highest number possible. There… Read More: Finding a mate is a logic game »
It’s time for another installment of Cooking with Thriftygal! I’m pretty sure my family is the only one that calls this dish “oosurd.” After 10 minutes of googling to check the spelling and using a harsh tone with Google — “No, I do NOT mean ‘absurd’” — I finally asked my mom for alternate names.… Read More: Oosurd recipe (a.k.a. sabudana khichadi) »
I’ve been reading about love recently, researching my way into crossing off life bucket list item #44 and I came across the love languages. Apparently, there are five different ways people communicate their affection and if you can figure out your honey’s preferred way and do that, you’ve got a better shot at a healthy relationship. Here… Read More: How to show your love and oh, this is why… »
