The beta name for this project was Operation Create My Version of a Successful Blog and then Operation My Version of the Big Time. And finally the title you see above. Which may or may not change depending on what I learn in this operation.
Here is what would make me feel like I succeeded in making this website a happy part of my journey.
Goal 1: 25,002 subscribers
Goal 2: Make back the money I spent on this project
Goal 3: A link from a website I read daily
Goals 4-6: Document and cross off 3 Life Bucket List Items
Goal 7: 1 million page views in a single month
You might be wondering where I got those random numbers for goals 1 and 7. Well, I figured that there are almost 8 billion people in the world. 3 billion of them have access to the Internet. 873 million read English. I calculated the circumference, modulated the terms of the Internet traffic flow and then pulled the numbers out of the air.

Goal 1: 25,002 subscribers
Current Status as of April 16, 2016 (1319+648+51) = 2,018 subscribers (I really hate checking this)
Food for thought:
March 6, 2016 = 1943 subscribers. (I’m not going to check this again for a while)
March 5, 2016 (1265+630+48) = 1,943 subscribers (back in the right direction)
March 3, 2015: (1258+626+47) = 1,931 (Hmmm, that’s not good.)
March 1, 2016 – (1264 + 621 + 47) = 1,932 subscribers (On pace to hit goal in…more than five years.)
February 13, 2016 –1,842 subscribers (Not a bad start. Not a bad finish if it doesn’t grow either.)
*This is based on my email subscriptions and the number subscribed through Feedly and Bloglovin. I’m sure I’ve missed some that I’ll learn about.
Goal 2: Make back the money I’ve spent on this site.
Current status as of April 16, 2016. I have done….zero work on this goal so far.
Food for thoughts:
February 19, 2016: I have done zero work on this goal so far.
I spent $206.04 on thepowerofthrift.com since inception. The cost breakdown if you’re curious:
2013
Web hosting: (36 months)*($3.95/month) = $142.20
Domain Name Registration: Free for first year
Domain Privacy Protection: $10
2014
Domain Name Registration: $14.99
Domain Privacy Protection: $11
2015
Domain Name Registration: $15.99
Domain Privacy Protection: $11.88
Goal 3: A link from one of the websites I read daily.
Current status as of April 16, 2016. I have done….hmmm. Well, I read a few articles on how to do freelance writing a couple of weeks ago. Yeah, that’s it.
Current Status as of February 19, 2016: I have done zero work on this goal so far.
Here are the websites I personally check every single day.
*Most of the sites that I’ve picked to aggregate here don’t publish daily, so I don’t consider this a win….mostly because I’m already linked to two blogs that I have on my Feedly (Mr. Money Mustache and Jim Collins). Hi guys!
Goals 4-6: Document and cross off 3 Life Bucket List Items
Current Status: I’m not sure which three items will go in which order, but here are the ones I’m actively working on:
#1 – See the world
#3 – Learn to Cook Like Mom
#13 – Make a positive, lasting difference for 50 people
#17 – Be a writer
Goal 7: 1 million page views in a single month
Current Status as of April 2016. My stats are plummeting so I need to stop looking at them. I adjusted the settings on emails and feed readers so that you don’t actually have to click on my blog to read the article because (1) that’s the way I prefer my settings for myself personally and (2) so I could tell myself that accounted for some of the decrease. I mean a majority. Actually, probably all of the decrease really. 😉
February 19, 2016: I haven’t actively done anything for this goal yet. Just grinding away.
April 16, 2015: 25,000 so far this month
Closest I’ve come: January 2016: 309,885 views
