How is the first week on the resolutions chart roller coaster coming along?
You’re either building up some beautiful streaks or you’re still in the running for a good grade or you’re huddled off to the side and feeling resentful for this reminder of how terrible your resolutions are coming along.
No, no, no. Let me help you out of that huddle. Resolutions chart is not a piece of paper to cut yourself on. We’ll fix what’s broken.
And it’s only been a week! You still haven’t failed or received a D on anything! Start fresh today with resolve. Cs, Bs, and As are perfectly respectable grades.
Personally, I’m doing really well on my resolutions. Really well. I’m bragging. I’ve clawed my way out of my hole like I knew I could. I have to focus on the basics.
The work will save you. The toil, the struggle. That’s the point.
June 2019 was a good month, grades-wise.
A’s
Duolingo (A+)
Who’s to say what’s good or bad? (A+)
Meditate for 24 minutes
Take Vitamin D
Write morning papers
B’s
No internet before noon
Do my hair
Work on my blog for 2 hours
Work out
In June, I worked out 912 minutes for an average of 30.4 minutes per day. I care more about that number than the grade for this resolution and I think that number is worth an A.
C’s
No sugar.
I’m a little surprised by my average grade on this resolution. Normally I get A’s on this when it’s on my chart. I’ll do better next time.
Come to think of it, I shouldn’t be surprised by this grade. It was all french toast. I’m in love with brunch. Brunch is the best of the meals.
F’s
Work on my book for two hours
I’m very disappointed in myself for this grade, but, on the bright side, I still got my minimum 80 hours of writing for the month, so I can’t be too unhappy. I’ll probably find a way, though.
If you want to dump any of your resolutions, go ahead. This is supposed to be fun. I find it way fun.
I’m not sure what you mean by “Work on my book for two hours.” Is that two hours per day? Per week?
I can tell you from experience as one who’s written a mystery series, a YA novel, a thriller, several short stories and screenplays (unproduced, as yet), not to mention a few blogs (!), you will write when you make the time to do it. And if you really want to do it.
If you have problems with plotting or writing technique, I’d suggest taking a class. Or something that keeps you accountable, beyond your own initiative. Join a writers group, for instance. It’s been a boon for me.
Just a few thoughts. 🙂 Hope they’re helpful.
Thanks, Debbi! That is helpful. It means work on my book for two hours a day and you’re right that you write when you make time for it.
I’m having problem with conversation and flow. I think a class is a great idea.
Giving myself an A for reading your emails and trying all the things you suggest….except maybe a couple of recipes.
Give yourself an A+. Don’t be stingy!
Anita, I’m probably too hard on myself.
When are you going to host a party at that Denver bar, so I book my Alaska Airlines flight?
Oh man. Probably never. I’m not a fan of being the center of a meet up. I’ll happily go to other’s meetups though.
Above expectations in one area. If I keep this up I’ll give myself A++, but regression toward mean is the most likely case, still very good.
Two resolutions are not great and need to be improved upon in the long run and two are outright bad but since I’ve got a note from mum explaining my poor performance this week I will wait until next before grading myself.
I’ve never really managed to improve myself in more than 1 or 2 ways at the same time. I’m curious about the next three weeks.
I hear ya about the reversion to the mean. If floss isn’t on my resolutions chart, I only do it about half the time.
